The Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) is a collaborative effort between law enforcement and mental health professionals, with the primary goal of improving outcomes for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. C.I.T. officers receive specialized training to recognize signs of mental illness and de-escalate potentially dangerous situations, ensuring that people in crisis are treated with empathy and respect. Instead of responding to a mental health crisis with force, the officers are equipped to connect individuals with appropriate mental health resources and services. This can include bringing individuals to treatment centers rather than jails, where they would be better supported. Our department has three certified instructors to teach C.I.T.
Lt. Jason Putt serves as the CIT Coordinator for Region 3. Our department has approximately 30 officers trained in C.I.T. Our goal is to continue training as many of our officers as possible and other officers around the state. For more information contact Lt. Put at 662-432-2600 or jputt@leecosheriff.com.
