On November 14, 2020, while Lee County Sheriff’s Department School Resource Officers were assigned to a basketball game at Shannon High School, a bystander at the game noticed what appeared to be a magazine (for a gun) in the waistband of a spectator. This was reported to the School Resource Officer. The suspect was identified and the SRO retrieved a Glock 23 and 2 high capacity magazines that were in the suspect’s waistband. Suspect was escorted outside where other SROs were. Suspect was determined to be a 17-year old student who attends Shannon High School.
Suspect was arrested without incident and
is being charged with Possession of a Firearm on School Property.
NO one was injured during the incident. We are very thankful for the response from the public. Our School Resource Officers assigned to the schools are vital to everyone’s safety and we are thankful for their presence.
