On 08-13-2020, the Lee County Sheriff’s Department was contacted about midnight by a resident of Virginia about his son possibly being kidnapped in Lee County. It was reported that he received a facetime call from that showed his son being tied up against a tree with a gun to his head. The suspect demanded money in exchange for his son’s life. At that point, an investigation began to find his son, Austin Blake Hawks. At one point the alleged kidnapper did not get his money by the deadline and a gunshot was heard and the father was led to believe someone just shot and killed his son. A short time afterward the kidnappers again contacted the father threatening to cut his son's fingers off one at a time until his demands were met, and money was sent. These conversations continued throughout the day. As the day went on it was suspicious to investigators that this might not be an actual kidnapping, but due to the situation, it had to be further investigated. Later that evening the kidnappers were led to believe money was sent via western union. Upon investigators arrival, the so-called victim, Andrew Blake Hawks, was found at the counter attempting to pick up the money. He was immediately taken into custody. His accomplice, David Fisher Jr., was in the store shopping and was called to the front office where he was also taken into custody without incident.
