On Monday June 1st, 2020, a male came into the Lee County Sheriff’s Department and identified himself as Travis Dejuan Shaver from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Mr. Shaver said that he had moved to Lee County and needed to sign up on the Mississippi State Sex Offender Registry due to being convicted in Michigan of two counts of Third Degree Attempted Criminal Sexual Conduct with a victim under fourteen years of age, according to Michigan State Statutes.
Upon meeting with investigators, Mr. Shaver refused to provide mandatory information for the Mississippi State Sex Offender Registry and left. After investigators made contact with the Michigan State Sex Offender Registry, it was determined that Mr. Shaver did not notify in advance Michigan or Mississippi that he had intended to move, as he is required to do by state and federal laws.
After obtaining an arrest warrant for Mr. Shaver, he was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Lee County Sheriff’s Department where he was formally charged with Failure to Register As a Sex Offender. Mr. Shaver is awaiting arraignment by Lee County Justice Court.
